She's been an anti-racism activist for over 40 years & did her first exercise for her class on April 5, 1968, the day after Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. I wish more people were aware of what she's been teaching but I'm glad to see her on Late Night TV.
She's incredible..
Cindy Pickering yes I’ve been aware of her since the 80s. She did this in Canada too.
My parents taught me of Jane Elliott and her studies when I was still watching Seasame Street...(I'm 41). She's been an inspiration for me and my family for decades. Bless her and her work.
She said Tee Pee!
@@janetjoiner9204 There were tribes who lived in tee pees.

Not all black people have brown eyes and not all white people have blue eyes that's the problem with your theory
As an African American teacher i have watched many of this woman's videos and learned how to teach children of different races, religions etc. She made me think about my own bias' and stereotypes and made me walk in the moccasins of others. I am a better communicator, listener, observer, teacher because of her. If you are a teacher I challenge you to watch her videos. They will hurt but you will learn.
Thank you.
I totally AGREE
This woman is absolutely magnificent. She is brave, shows so much integrity, feisty, kind, and dedicated to our cause. I couldn't be more impressed by someone who didn't have to do any of this. Yet she made it her life's work. Thank you Ms. Jane.

She most certainly cries, just over the right things. The true atrocities in this world.
Yes she is 😢
My heart hurts to see her all upset and torn over Martin Luther king, the pain is still there many many years later.
Well she cries every time she talks about the death of MLK, even until this day. You know it really impacted her.
She came to our school twice and when I say how she captivated a room and made people think, it was astounding. It was one of the few times as a black person at a pwi where I was able to be like "whoa, she get it!" And then when she did the exercise, watching the character changes on people and us minorities on the other side, the short moment of "...is this what it feels like?" recognition was just...I needed for more people to understand it truly, so we can change the mindsets of people.
We were able to have an hour conversation later and I remember coming initially to thank her for doing what she did and instead, she thanked me first for being so brave and strong a person to endure and exist each day with what we have, and apologized as well that we even have this burden of society and that this was even necessary. I almost cried, I still dont know why, but others of us did too.
Check out her videos and speeches on here, they are eye opening and so well worth the time 🙏🏾

THANK YOU for interviewing Jane. As a child of the 80s, my first grade teacher duplicated her lesson and I was suddenly in a world where I was a lesser person because of the color of my eyes, something I could not help and had no control over. LOVE HER..I teared up with her when she talked about Martin Luther King. What a great man he was..
Jane Elliot is one of those few white people that can stand up side by side with black people when it comes to racial discrimination BECAUSE SHE IS EDUCATED. The reason why black folks don't like it when white people speak up in rallies or whatever is because many of them are uneducated or not educated enough. Jane Elliot is a woman that knows when to speak up and most importantly she never oversteps or claims to relate to the black experience because she has EDUCATED HERSELF AND SHE HAS LISTENED TO BLACK PEOPLE. Have you watched the show she did with Oprah in '96' or '92' it was i believe? There are 2 parts to it. In one of the parts she said she is constantly trying to unlearn the racism she has been taught. Its so crazy. Lights went off in my head. With media, schools, and the community teaching whether they unknowinlgy knew or knew that we were being taught to stay segregated instead of sitting down. And collaborating what is the proper way to speak to one another. I love her salad theory. Also. When she gives the example of saying that, "I don't see color" I can see why people say that because they want to let you know that the color of anothers skin does not bother them. When she described how it hurts people to say that, it taught me something I didn't think about or know it was hurtful to say. There is another video I watched today of a ted talk where an African American sat down with a kkk member and they became the best of friends. He mentioned that what people need more is to communicate about the hard stuff. In doing that it prevents wars.
Much love to you and all. ❤

I’m barely able to type this through the tears..thank you, thank you, thank you for your work and sacrifice
There's a very sad statement.
Not really. She only says this nonsense so gullible people like yourself can call it “profound” and “genius” while ignoring the numerous pieces of video evidence showing how she undermines, demonizes, and slanders white people with broad strokes.
And we do have programs like hers, but they have shown to be destructive and a detriment to actual race relations. It has created this guilt based anti-white rhetoric that creates more division and racism. Because of programs like hers, we have this asinine notion that Whites are privileged, default racist, and a symbol of hate. We have created colleges full of people that are programmed to hate anything white and see black people as a group of people who need coddling, special treatment, and immunity from criticism. Because of her kind, black people are set back years and led to believe that white is the reason they don’t accomplish anything rather than lack of ambition and personal responsibility.
People like her have conditioned black folks to think a destructive nature is the only reasonable method to obtain what you want, and that having merit should be undermined by skin tone. Black people believe that their skin tone is far more significant than their individuality, which is why they shun things like colorblindness, responsibility, and seeing anything beyond that shallow perspective. When you tell a group of people that their skin color should be seen and that individuality is racist and a sin, then you have lead people astray with your words. Those people condition black people so much that they actually believe they’re still on some kind of plantation and have no freedom to do whatever they want.
The irony of the whole thing is that her kind, the liberal and social justice community, are the ones who act this way toward black people, not the average white person. I have seen numerous videos where these types have stated that black people were too stupid to do this or that simply on the basis of their skin tone. I have seen videos where good ole white saviors are the ones who are telling black people that they don’t matter, they're bad people, and that society hates them, not the average white person.
Humanity, huh? This woman looks down, demeans, and disregards white people. A humane person would look at all perspectives and come to their own conclusion, not use their white guilt to blame a whole race for the inadequacies of another race.
And we do have programs like. She isn't saying anything new, but the same, tiresome anti-white sentiment every liberal is saying. Why do you people think this woman is something to behold? She provides no solutions, panders to only skin tone, and treats white people like crap based on her own white guilt.
She’s been doing this forever, no matter the backlash she receives she continues to push through to get the message across of the inequalities/racism that Black people face everyday.

@J OneLife I think you better watch it again because you missed the point completely. It's a social experiment on racism.
@J OneLife oh my God honey :( it represents the complete myth of superiority and importance based on physical characteristics and the extent in which this line of thinking is damaging to the point of death. And she chose blue eyes as the inferior attribute because the race that believes it's superior has the largest percentage of blue eyed people, so that it would affect the most people possible. I hate answering trolls, but this is fresh so I thought I'd make an answer for others.
I edit this and say that I am white, and her video of her racism experiment was one of the first and most memorable exercises in understanding for me, and I appreciate it because she is brutal. Society is brutal and doesnt assuage ppl into understanding one another. It often takes tragedies neither party can truly bare up to a point, like her "senseless" "bullying" experiments, to actual senseless acts like murders and faulty/phony justice.
She helped me learn in my small midwestern town, unexposed to the myriad avenues of violence some people experience, that the discrepancies matter and are held to a high level of accountability by the people its oppression affects.
I believe people of every race, at the hands who we are told again and again are there to protect us and serve us justice in a lawful way, deserve to be treated within accordance of the law, and in a way that dignifies every human citizen.
She had a huge hand in me not following my father's dangerous and devastating line of thinking, and I want to thank her and a couple dozen of authors I've read who demanded to keep black history preserved.
This is one of the most fascinating accounts of someone who was able to completely empathize during a time where empathizing meant somewhere akin to a being traitor, and being a white woman she was able to spread the word to previously uninterested spaces, and her sharp intellect made her viewpoints an authentic weapon, and she ended up being an important voice in the ongoing movement.
Please listen.
Why has she not won a Nobel Peace Prize?
We all know why...
Because she speaks the truth. People would rather the comfort of lies rather than hearing the truth which is key to setting them free.
@@drewkhandi2312 ouch.. reading this hurt me physically, it'shoneslty so sad, unfortunate and frankly disgusting. And the worst is, like you said, we know why she hasn't won one yet
Zei exactly
Seriously! She deserves it! She sacrificed a lot to do the right thing! What a women!
I went through this experiment of blue eyes, brown eyes as a young child in primary school and it simply reaffirmed what I was taught as a child by my great grandmother that we are all of one race. This teaching needs to be taught to every person and child from a very young age.
Jane is the best of humanity. I continue to use her teachings in my classes at Uni and my students - who are in their 20s - are always shocked. Thank you Jane - love from Sydney Australia.
😔 She tears up everytime she speaks about the time she found out that MLK died.
Yeah she does I've seen a lot of her interviews and she gets very emotional when she talks about MLK's death
Abby94 it’s soooo much easier to live in peace and love. So yeah it hurts that peace and love amongst all(personified) was killed.
It’s palpable. That kind of hurt never goes away.
bro i cry every time she cries...i feel her pain and frustration, she's so precious.
Same bro it hurts my soul you can truly feel her pain because she's so strong so I know that his death truly hurts her to the core of her soul 😥
There’s a special place in Heaven for this woman because she understands how humans should truly be treating each other; the way God intended.🙌🏾✊🏾😌

@@maryg6119 Because she understands how humans should truly be treating each other. The way God intended.

This interview MUST be shared on social media. No one lights a fire under a person's ass like a brilliant old woman with a powerful message.
remove old, unnecessary adjective she was wise at many age levels. Age doesn't equal wise character or brilliance.
Put it on Facebook please, I got kicked off for posting a youtube video with colin Powell criticizing rumpus. Freedom of speech? This country is turning into North Korea.
Only one race : the human race . One people living in one world .
Right one race.. until it's time to blame whitey for something
Technically the only real race on the planet is more of the athletic kind. People race, they are not the race itself. The only race on the planet is the one you run. All people are Children under the DIVINE CREATOR who older than the universe. Because SHE is the universe. And that's not a typo and SHE'S just as real as the man god we bow to who bows before HER too.
Her work is impeccable nonetheless.

LMFAOO he looked pressed😭🤣🤣🤣
Missed opportunity to take this interview to another level! Mrs Elliott fought for what's right before it was popular!
More people need to enlighten themselves on Jane Elliott’s work. She is fabulous!
Martin Luther King Jr died in 1968. Present day, Jane Elliot remembers the day she found he died and started getting emotional. That’s how much it means to her. That’s how we all should be feeling.
Unless you're a black conservative, then she says, "you're talking like a white man, not a black man."
I can listen to Jane speak all day! She's full of intelligence and wisdom
This woman is AMAZING. I have no words to explain how much respect i have for this wonderfully intelligent lady. I could listen to her speak for days, the things she could educate us all on would be astronomical. We need a teacher like this in every classroom and in every home "educate yourself" ❤ Wow WOW WOW
I've been following Jane Elliott since her episode on Oprah years ago. Everyone needs to be like Jane. This was a brilliant interview! 👏🏾
In a world full of Karens, be a Jane
Underrated comment. Brilliant
But wait! Lol I am a Karen!! Lol I love me....& not all “KARENS” are the same. We amazing Karens are the ones you don’t see. Those are the good Karens like me! lol but being a Jane is beautiful....🙌🏽😍🙌🏽😉

There should be more compassionate people like this lady. Hats off! A big heart.
Jane Elliot can be my mom, aunt and grandma. She is so wonderful and to hear her talk.
In stead of thinking
“Wow! Been 50 years. Still going strong!”,
She’s thinking
“Oh my GOD! I’ve been doing this for 5O YEARS!!! When will we EVER LEARN.”
She should be thinking about why she's doing this when it's hurting society more than helping it.

We should adopt her as America's grandma.
Only if we listen to our grandmas.
The sad part about your comment is that is America as a whole ready to accept her as Americas Grandma because she just told us everything she has lost because of her stance...In America
America doesn’t deserve her

Thought I was the only one who noticed that. Jimmy looked, sounded, and acted very uncomfortable.
I’ve been waiting to hear her during this, and I wish more tv news programs bring her on
I said the same thing.
Jimmy is so out of his league here lol but you know what? At least he’s trying. I can respect that.
Agree. He asked pretty good questions and shut up to listen.. I think that's totally respectable. Giving the platform to the people who should speak :)
Agreed. ❤️😊
@@AerikaEngel15 I love how as a woman, you just want women to have more options to speak, and it has nothing whatsoever to do with fairness. Notice how it's only White people and males giving others the opportunity to speak. Look at how women treat ONE ANOTHER. Look at how Blacks and Browns treat ONE ANOTHER. It's only White people and specifically White men who have this fetish of giving "opportunities" to everyone else. No one else does this, including other races or ethnic groups that are rich, such as the Japanese. Again, ONLY White people have this fetish, and specifically White men.
Wow! She is the best. She did it. No one ever talks about how Malcolm and Martin was about to come together.
I have never seen this lady show emotion. She is so lovely.
The way she speaks on MLK is astounding. She was outraged back then, and she is still outraged
“Soup sandwich”...I love this lady!!!
Killer mike sent me here, but i got her message since the 90's, but its nice to see her still preaching the 💯 truth.
Jane Elliot has me in tears too. Love this woman.
She is legendary. And I would call her more "pro-human" rather than "anti-racist". She is saying that racism is an illusion, since we are actually one race.
Agreed
Great point! 👌❤️
And she is right. Too much emphasis is put on color, even within the same “race”. We need to get away from that entirely.
That problem with this statement is she's speaking for black people when there are plenty that would debunk that 100%. If she spoke to the black israelites. Khalid Abdul Mohammed, Frances Cress Wesling, Neely Fuller, Umar Johnson, they not only would disagree with that statement they'd also say she is from an inferior race and don't compare her with them.
She's garbage
Jane is so inspiring and intelligent. She brings so much influence that I aspire to be able to bring. Love u Jane 🤍
When she choked up about MLK's assassination I choked up 😔

This woman is amazing and a straight talker...I would so love to talk to this incredible woman who makes so much sense .... Thank you Jane for opening my eyes and making want to understand racism and bigotry more.... God bless you
I remember her exercise from back in the early 70's. Her horn rimmed glasses and matter of fact demeanor. Being a small child at the time it seemed almost crue at firstl, but as she continued what she was trying to teach began to sink in, and I thought the way she turned the tables the next day in a role reversal really helped bring the message home and showed that wasn't really being mean, but had something important to impart and I still think of it frequently to this day! I didn't know she was still alive and it is such a treat to see her again today! Her work is very important and poignant, and cannot be emphasized enough. You are a shining jewel, and I hope your lessons continue to have the impact today that has stuck with me all these years. Hats off to you and thank you so very much!!!
"If you don't see my skin, you don't see me." she is a treasure to everyone, but especially important to the understanding and education needed for white people. also, did we see how she got choked up for a moment speaking about when she found out about the assassination of MLK? wow.
That means you and her are literal-minded. And that's YOUR problem, not white people's. When people say that they "don't see race", they mean metaphorically, that they won't treat others differently, because of their skin-colour. It's really not that hard.
@@jaydamalley3398 Agreed. Jane Elliot is a well-meaning pessimist stuck in a past defined by issues that if not for reality twisted people like her, could be transcended in modern USA. May we leave Jane Elliot and racism in the past.
Jay Damalley But usually when people say that, when it’s the first thing they say upon meeting someone, they are already bringing race into it. I think that she is correct in saying what she says regarding that. There’s also a poet, a woman of color and I can’t remember her name, but in one of her poems she says that when someone tells you they don’t see your color that means to them, you are invisible.
As a woman of color, I understand this and agree. It might come off as metaphorical but trying to act like our differences aren’t there further dismisses the actual issues around race. To me, it actually implies that something is wrong about being different racially and that it should be hidden. And that’s not right.
And more importantly, why should you have to tell someone that you don’t see their race? That feels like telling the person of a different race, non white in this topic, that there is something wrong with them because of their skin color, that they have underlying beliefs about the person but that they decided that they don’t actually see the color. I hope I am making sense. But to tell someone that you don’t see their color is not Noble or a compliment.
It just feels like they’re trying to make the person feel better and it is almost patronizing. It also makes the person who is saying that they don’t see color look like they have a superiority complex.
@@AshleyMintz I think also some white people just want a gold medal from a black person for saying shit like that. It's really quite embaressing to say something like that.

So glad you had the desire and the clout with the bosses to be able to get her on with fam. LOVE LOVE LOVE!! Thank you for courage.
New path? Talk about indoctrinated. They've got a whole generation believing they are the ones who ended slavery and segregation. Black people have to now stand up for their own culture and eliminate negative stereotypes like idolizing rap lyrics that perpetuate "gangsta" values and degrade women. Value and credit those of color who have transcended stereotypes. Like those black people I've seen, admired, worked with, been friends with, worshiped with, even welcomed into the family, over the last 40 years! There are plenty of black people to look up to, we had a black president for 8 years for God's sake! And you are STILL calling America racists. 🙄
We need to protect her at all cost. By any means. She's a living Library.
The fact that she's been talking about racism for over 40years!!!it takes balls to do during recession!

@@lovmcpherson2188 It's one thing to practice in private, but it is unethical, rude, and immoral to perpetuate and project the fears of your religion onto others. Anyone who tells you that you must follow them or be doomed is not a savior, that is an abuser. If they tell you to indoctrinate others by those same tactics of using fear and uncertainty to force more into the same cult they are not a God worth following. If you don't have the freedom to choose without consequence that isn't a kind or loving entity. That is the very definition of evil. You can believe and be faithful without harming others.

Yes, I’m really hoping that they release the full interview at some point
stefan matvei swietoniowski all I can say is wow to your comment. It’s batshit.
stefan matvei swietoniowski are you generally that ignorant? Racism at its grass roots level is deeply institutionalised in not just America but all around the world. The fact you said it is one of the least places that is racist inherently implies you are aware of racism and are accepting of it. There should be NO racism. Period. Instead of arguing which place is more racist and which is less - start being more attentive, educate yourself and start realising that around the world we need to stop racism.
stefan matvei swietoniowski Further to my point above, you seem willing to accept that “there are deep down prejudices that will never go away”. It is that exact distasteful acceptance that allows racism as you put it as “never going to disappear”. Your thinking is the very inherent byproduct of institutionalised systems. When you really look “deep down”...we are all the same. One human race. I suggest you educate yourself before making such ignorant and quite frankly discriminatory remarks.
stefan matvei swietoniowski Haha its actually inconceivable how inherently prejudiced your views are. First of all you say the majority of people aren’t openly racist is enough. No you ignorant coward it is NOT. That same ideology accepts and allows the minority TO BE PREJUDICED and continues to. Then you say “expecting people to let go of that SAME prejudice is impossible and a violation of personal space. Not only do you condone that minority to be racist, you willingly justify it on a human rights basis - that very concept of having a ‘right’ to be discriminatory to another person is at all levels of both morality and human consciousness flawed. We are not born racist nor have a right to be racist. That is taught, learnt and adopted by bigots like yourself. There is no left view or right view on “ideal situations” with race - both a left view person of a ‘’minority colour” and a right view person of a “majority colour” all are part of the same race. The only difference is pigmentations in their skin tone. Once again, educate yourself and start realising that instead of having such benighted views on equality and “lefties” start viewing life from a neutral standpoint, as we are all from the same ancestry.
