    She's been an anti-racism activist for over 40 years & did her first exercise for her class on April 5, 1968, the day after Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. I wish more people were aware of what she's been teaching but I'm glad to see her on Late Night TV.

    As an African American teacher i have watched many of this woman's videos and learned how to teach children of different races, religions etc. She made me think about my own bias' and stereotypes and made me walk in the moccasins of others. She came to our school twice and when I say how she captivated a room and made people think, it was astounding. It was one of the few times as a black person at a pwi where I was able to be like "whoa, she get it!" And then when she did the exercise, watching the character changes on people and us minorities on the other side, the short moment of "...is this what it feels like?" recognition was just...I needed for more people to understand it truly, so we can change the mindsets of people.
    We were able to have an hour conversation later and I remember coming initially to thank her for doing what she did and instead, she thanked me first for being so brave and strong a person to endure and exist each day with what we have, and apologized as well that we even have this burden of society and that this was even necessary. I almost cried, I still dont know why, but others of us did too.
    Check out her videos and speeches on here, they are eye opening and so well worth the time 🙏🏾

    Jane Elliot is one of those few white people that can stand up side by side with black people when it comes to racial discrimination BECAUSE SHE IS EDUCATED. The reason why black folks don't like it when white people speak up in rallies or whatever is because many of them are uneducated or not educated enough. Jane Elliot is a woman that knows when to speak up and most importantly she never oversteps or claims to relate to the black experience because she has EDUCATED HERSELF AND SHE HAS LISTENED TO BLACK PEOPLE. Have you watched the show she did with Oprah in '96' or '92' it was i believe? There are 2 parts to it. In one of the parts she said she is constantly trying to unlearn the racism she has been taught. Its so crazy. Lights went off in my head. With media, schools, and the community teaching whether they unknowinlgy knew or knew that we were being taught to stay segregated instead of sitting down. And collaborating what is the proper way to speak to one another. I love her salad theory. Also. When she gives the example of saying that, "I don't see color" I can see why people say that because they want to let you know that the color of anothers skin does not bother them. When she described how it hurts people to say that, it taught me something I didn't think about or know it was hurtful to say. There is another video I watched today of a ted talk where an African American sat down with a kkk member and they became the best of friends. He mentioned that what people need more is to communicate about the hard stuff. In doing that it prevents wars.
      Much love to you and all. ❤

      Not really. She only says this nonsense so gullible people like yourself can call it “profound” and “genius” while ignoring the numerous pieces of video evidence showing how she undermines, demonizes, and slanders white people with broad strokes.
      And we do have programs like hers, but they have shown to be destructive and a detriment to actual race relations. It has created this guilt based anti-white rhetoric that creates more division and racism. Because of programs like hers, we have this asinine notion that Whites are privileged, default racist, and a symbol of hate. We have created colleges full of people that are programmed to hate anything white and see black people as a group of people who need coddling, special treatment, and immunity from criticism. Because of her kind, black people are set back years and led to believe that white is the reason they don’t accomplish anything rather than lack of ambition and personal responsibility.
      People like her have conditioned black folks to think a destructive nature is the only reasonable method to obtain what you want, and that having merit should be undermined by skin tone. Black people believe that their skin tone is far more significant than their individuality, which is why they shun things like colorblindness, responsibility, and seeing anything beyond that shallow perspective. When you tell a group of people that their skin color should be seen and that individuality is racist and a sin, then you have lead people astray with your words. Those people condition black people so much that they actually believe they’re still on some kind of plantation and have no freedom to do whatever they want.
      The irony of the whole thing is that her kind, the liberal and social justice community, are the ones who act this way toward black people, not the average white person. I have seen numerous videos where these types have stated that black people were too stupid to do this or that simply on the basis of their skin tone. I have seen videos where good ole white saviors are the ones who are telling black people that they don’t matter, they're bad people, and that society hates them, not the average white person.

      Humanity, huh? This woman looks down, demeans, and disregards white people. A humane person would look at all perspectives and come to their own conclusion, not use their white guilt to blame a whole race for the inadequacies of another race.
      And we do have programs like. She isn't saying anything new, but the same, tiresome anti-white sentiment every liberal is saying. Why do you people think this woman is something to behold? She provides no solutions, panders to only skin tone, and treats white people like crap based on her own white guilt.

      @girlsame 4 года назад

      @J OneLife oh my God honey :( it represents the complete myth of superiority and importance based on physical characteristics and the extent in which this line of thinking is damaging to the point of death. And she chose blue eyes as the inferior attribute because the race that believes it's superior has the largest percentage of blue eyed people, so that it would affect the most people possible. I hate answering trolls, but this is fresh so I thought I'd make an answer for others.
      I edit this and say that I am white, and her video of her racism experiment was one of the first and most memorable exercises in understanding for me, and I appreciate it because she is brutal. Society is brutal and doesnt assuage ppl into understanding one another. It often takes tragedies neither party can truly bare up to a point, like her "senseless" "bullying" experiments, to actual senseless acts like murders and faulty/phony justice.
      She helped me learn in my small midwestern town, unexposed to the myriad avenues of violence some people experience, that the discrepancies matter and are held to a high level of accountability by the people its oppression affects.
      I believe people of every race, at the hands who we are told again and again are there to protect us and serve us justice in a lawful way, deserve to be treated within accordance of the law, and in a way that dignifies every human citizen.
      She had a huge hand in me not following my father's dangerous and devastating line of thinking, and I want to thank her and a couple dozen of authors I've read who demanded to keep black history preserved.
      This is one of the most fascinating accounts of someone who was able to completely empathize during a time where empathizing meant somewhere akin to a being traitor, and being a white woman she was able to spread the word to previously uninterested spaces, and her sharp intellect made her viewpoints an authentic weapon, and she ended up being an important voice in the ongoing movement.
      Please listen.

      Jay Damalley But usually when people say that, when it’s the first thing they say upon meeting someone, they are already bringing race into it. I think that she is correct in saying what she says regarding that. There’s also a poet, a woman of color and I can’t remember her name, but in one of her poems she says that when someone tells you they don’t see your color that means to them, you are invisible.
      As a woman of color, I understand this and agree. It might come off as metaphorical but trying to act like our differences aren’t there further dismisses the actual issues around race. To me, it actually implies that something is wrong about being different racially and that it should be hidden. And that’s not right.
      And more importantly, why should you have to tell someone that you don’t see their race? That feels like telling the person of a different race, non white in this topic, that there is something wrong with them because of their skin color, that they have underlying beliefs about the person but that they decided that they don’t actually see the color. I hope I am making sense. But to tell someone that you don’t see their color is not Noble or a compliment.
      It just feels like they’re trying to make the person feel better and it is almost patronizing. It also makes the person who is saying that they don’t see color look like they have a superiority complex.

    I wanted to attempt her brown eye/ brown eye experiment in high school (an all girls school), but my advisors said it would be "too hurtful to the girls with blue eyes." I am black.

      stefan matvei swietoniowski are you generally that ignorant? Racism at its grass roots level is deeply institutionalised in not just America but all around the world. The fact you said it is one of the least places that is racist inherently implies you are aware of racism and are accepting of it. There should be NO racism. Period. Instead of arguing which place is more racist and which is less - start being more attentive, educate yourself and start realising that around the world we need to stop racism.

      stefan matvei swietoniowski Further to my point above, you seem willing to accept that “there are deep down prejudices that will never go away”. It is that exact distasteful acceptance that allows racism as you put it as “never going to disappear”. Your thinking is the very inherent byproduct of institutionalised systems. When you really look “deep down”...we are all the same. One human race. I suggest you educate yourself before making such ignorant and quite frankly discriminatory remarks.

    • @mrnd97
      @mrnd97 4 года назад +3

      stefan matvei swietoniowski Haha its actually inconceivable how inherently prejudiced your views are. First of all you say the majority of people aren’t openly racist is enough. No you ignorant coward it is NOT. That same ideology accepts and allows the minority TO BE PREJUDICED and continues to. Then you say “expecting people to let go of that SAME prejudice is impossible and a violation of personal space. Not only do you condone that minority to be racist, you willingly justify it on a human rights basis - that very concept of having a ‘right’ to be discriminatory to another person is at all levels of both morality and human consciousness flawed. We are not born racist nor have a right to be racist. That is taught, learnt and adopted by bigots like yourself. There is no left view or right view on “ideal situations” with race - both a left view person of a ‘’minority colour” and a right view person of a “majority colour” all are part of the same race. The only difference is pigmentations in their skin tone. Once again, educate yourself and start realising that instead of having such benighted views on equality and “lefties” start viewing life from a neutral standpoint, as we are all from the same ancestry.
